Week 3

Designing a Digital Portfolio by Cynthia L. Baron, Chapter 3

Perhaps one of the greatest variables when considering the success of a new invention is the inventor’s consideration of the audience. I frequently read Scientific American Magazine, constantly viewing advertisements for inventions that are so heavily promoted and yet still fail to be purchased by consumers. Cynthia Baron emphasizes research/information, in an attempt to know about your target audience, simply because research provides context. The more you know about something, the better off you are with handling it. The section on search tools, although thorough, wasn’t too helpful since the methods that were described were quite obvious.

How To Be A Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul by Adrian Shaughnessy, chapter 5,6

It seems, from chapter 5 of this book, that designers running a studio have the privilege of working on a small scale with a relatively small amount of things to worry about. I suppose it is possible that the simplicity/clarity of the chapter has deceived me into thinking that things may be a bit more plain than they actually are, but I think the author may be so well versed in the subject that things seem so easy. There does seem, however, to be an inevitable complication; employees. Of course, this is nothing new to me, as I’ve seen how incompetent people can be while doing group projects.
